Route Notes Perfect snow conditions when team was there but lot of new snow fell just after departure. 7 May Jezler climbed alpine-style from C2 which he had left on 5 May. 7 May he pitched his own tent 7200m; on 7th to fore-summit at 8000m and down to 7200m. 8th to C1 and 9th BC. He did not go to the true summit because of the fog which he feared to move in. Expedition had very strong winds which blew down long tent with 50 kg gear inside - also electrical storm 10th May. Alex Bricker Unfortunately we had a deadly accident, one German member, Horst Wasmann is missing on the mountain. Together with a Swiss friend [Zemp], they tried to come down [with 2 Spaniards] under very bad weather-conditions from Camp 4 (7400m) to a lower camp. At the altitude of approx 6400m he fell down to the North-East Face of Cho Oyu. The date of the accident was Saturday, 11th May 1991 at 19:30 Peking Time. [Wasmann was completely disoriented with altitude sickness. Zemp, who was ahead of him, heard him fall. Team search 12th and 13th and found only cap and ski stick.]
