Route Notes Climbed Xixabangma first (to summit on 24 Oct) then to a "very fast climb" of Cho Oyu. In the autumn of '88 Noboru Yamada who had already made seven 8000ers, summits, climbed above 2 peaks, which left him five more unclimbed 8000ers among 14 of them. He organized the HAJ team, led by him, comprised 4 members. They reached BC of Xixabangma on Oct 9 and carried their loads up to ABC for 3 days. On the NE Ridge (normal route) after they push up C1 (6300m) on Oct 17, C2 (6900m) on Oct 19 they fixed ropes up to 7350m. On Oct 24 all the members attacked the summit and except O. Shimizu (30) who gave up at the point of 7350m, Yamada, T. Saegus and A. Yamamoto (26) kept climbing until they made the summit at 13:50. On Oct 29 they withdrew the BC and took one day rest at Xegar then approached the Cho Oyu BC (4750m) on Oct 31. Pushing up on the normal West Ridge (WNR Ridge) route they placed ABC (5700m), C1(6350m) and on Nov 6 all the members reached the summit.
