Polkowski had not been aware of the fact that Dawa had not brought a rope and he did not want to ascend any higher without protection due to danger. Conditions were difficult, fog, snow and wind. Bad cooperation on the mountain, lack of equipment, too few Sherpas. They were well-acclimatized, but they felt tired and worried. Sherpas didn't fix the ropes. Bar-Zion abandoned climb on 29 April. He had reached C1 on 27 April when it was very bad weather and windy. After this first acclimatization trip, he could not cope psychologically. Chin Tark Chan reached CBC on 20 April. He was altitude sick and left the expedition on 21 April. Oxygen: taken and used at CBC by Chin Tark; other members did not use oxygen. |
