| Route Notes | BC 18/04 4900m ABC 21/04 5400m C1 25/04 6400m C1.5 05/05 6800m C2 06/05 7200m C3 12/05 7500m (Laemmle & Weinand on 2nd smt push, Gruber didn't stay at C3). Smt 07/05 by Gruber at 3:10 pm (CST). Gruber, Laemmle and Weinand left C2 at 4 am on 7 May. Weather was very windy. Laemmle and Weinand turned back at the yellow band at 7500m at about 8:30 am. The reason for their retreat was that the route was not fixed and they were going without oxygen and Weinand was very tired. They descended to C1 the same day. Gruber carried on and summited together with Chhiring Dorje (mentioned in Robin Trygg's On Return). They spent about 30 minutes on the summit and descended to C2. On 13 May Laemmle and Weinand reached 7850m during a second summit attempt. They left C3 at 3 am. They were alone on the route and there was a lot of snow. Laemmle had to dig out the fixed rope for most of the way. They reached the upper end of the couloir (7700m) at 7 am. They carried on for another hour, but digging out the rope was too hard and Weinand had cold fingers. High winds. They turned back at about 7850m. They descended to C1. Members at end: 2 (Gruber had left for Everest right after his summit success; Laemmle went to Everest and Weinand went home). |
