| Route Notes | BC 19/04 4900m ABC 22/04 5700m HPt 22/04 5700m by Spencer, Fitzpatrick. We were all waiting for conditions to improve and then the earthquake occured. This triggered a huge avalanche that happened on the mountain opposite the camps, so fortunately there were no accidents or injuries on Cho Oyu as a result of the earthquake. The weather appeared to be improving and we were confident of making some progress, but a meeting was called on 29th April and we were informed by the Chinese liaison officer that the Chinese and Tibetan Mountaineering Association along with the Chinese government had decided to close all 8000m mountains in Tibet and that we would all be evacuated to Lhasa. |
