| Route Notes | Sanna started his ski ascent from C2 at midnight of 30 September. He got to the summit at 8:30 am of 01 October. He skied down to C3 then to C1. From C1 to ABC no skis. He was without supplementary oxygen. Annovazzi, Macchetto, Fasciani, Boaretto started their summit push from C3 at midnight of 30 September. Annovazzi reached the top at 6:30 am on 02 October. He stayed on summit for 20 minutes and returned to C3 at 9:30 am. Macchetto got to the top at 8 am, Fasciani at 8:20 am, Boaretto and Nima at 8:30 am. All of them stayed on summit for about 30 minutes and descended to C3 where they arrived between 12 to 2 pm. They stayed at C3 till 2 pm then went down to C2 where members arrived between 3 pm to 4:30 pm. Next day all went down to ABC. Crippa left expedition on 14 September due to coughing problem. He reached Kathmandu on 16 September and left probably for home on 17 or 18 September. Colombini went up to C2 and retreated to ABC due to lack of energy. Oxygen: Not used Paraphrased from Montagna.tv: The September 29, 2014, six Italian mountaineers, organized by the Mountain Kingdom, taking advantage of ideal weather, departed from Cho Oyu base camp to the Summit (8201m) scheduled for October 2: Federico Sanna, Luca Macchetto (mountain guide and expedition leader), Italo Fasciani, Stelvio Boaretto, Valerio Annovazzi and Paolo Colombini. The expedition was accompanied originally by another mountaineer, Pierangelo Crippa, but due to a sickness that occurred during the first period of the expedition, had to give up and returned to Italy early. On 30 September, unfortunately, Paolo left the team at about 7000 feet and returned to BC (5600m). On the same day Federico parted at midnight for the summit from C2 (7140m) with a load of skis. The summit came on the morning of 1 October 8:30 am after leaving the skis to C3 (7520 meters) to be used for descent. Meanwhile others, crossing Federico skiing downhill between C2 and C3, not without a hint of envy, struggled to get to C3. At 00:30 on October 2 all left for the summit reaching in order: Valerio at about 7:00, Luca and Italo at 7:30, and Stelvio at approximately 07:45. Also participating in the expedition were Sherpas Rita Dorje and Nima Tenji. The members from the expedition did not use oxygen either uphill or downhill. |
