Route Notes Summit team, composed of all members except Alexander, plus four Sherpas, left C3 at 1:00 am (NST) on 29 September, got to the summit at 6:54 am, returned to C3 at 9:30 am and descended to C1 at 2:30 pm. They were back in ABC on the 30th, left ABC and BC on 2 October and arrived in Kathmandu on the 4th. The summiters were D'Hers, Jones, Morris, Safari and Siewald, plus Sherpas Ang Kancha, Fur Kancha, Kami Rita and Lhakpa Rita. Michael Alexander had dropped out on 24 September. He reached C1 on 23 September with difficulty, then quit the expedition because of exhaustion, and left the team on the 24th. They fixed 1000 feet (300 meters) of rope from 7700m to 8075m (35,500 to 26,500 feet), from slightly above C3 through the Yellow Band and above it. Bottled oxygen was used by Jones and Lhakpa Rita up from C3 to the summit and down until it ran out. The other summiting members used in up from C2 to C3, slept on it in C3, and used it continously up from C3 to the top and down as long as it lasted.
