Route Notes The expedition's only summit bid was launched from C2 at 7200m at 0:30 hours (half an hour past midnight, Nepal time) on 24 May by five members and four Sherpas. One member, Smith, climbed up to 7400m at 2:30 am, but then ran out of steam and was back down in C1 at about noon. The rest of the summit party carried on to the top: Bergvall got there at 7:00 am with Dawa Jangbu Sherpa; Nichiporov with Dawa Jangbu Lama and Ang Kami reached the top at 8:30 am; and Tiercelin and Pemba summited at 10:30 am. The summiters returned to C2 between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm that day. On their summit day the climbers encountered very strong wind (45-60 km/hr) after 11:00 am and it was very cold. However none of the climbers got frostbite. The summiting members and Sherpas used oxygen from C2 to the top and back to C2 (if their oxygen hadn't run out before returning to C2). Non-summiting members: Guittet reached C2 on 12 May with others to occupy the camp, but he had become very tired and descended to ABC the next day. Hudson went no higher than C2 on the 22nd, then turned back because of bad cough, went down to C1 to rest and continued on the ABC that day. As per his plan, Hutt went as high as C2 on 23 May and then descended by parapante to BC. Virt climbed to C1 on 12 May and on up to 6000m, then had no more strength left to continue and returned to C1. He had not been sleeping well because of the altitude. Sherpas: Ang Kami Sherpa, 3/10/86, Patle, Okhaldhunga, no 8000ers Dawa Jangbu Lama, 16/5/87, Beni, Solu, no 8000ers Dawa Jangbu Sherpa, 4/6/79, Patle-4, Okhaldhunga, Everest X2, Cho Oyu X3, Lhotse X1 Pemba Sherpa, 28/1/82, Lamabagar-1, Dolakha, Everest X1, Manaslu X0
