Route Notes Before attempting Cho Oyu, the expedition went to Xixabangma. Four members, Bolt, Fricker, Kirchgatterer and Lehner, with all four of their climbing Sherpas, summited it on 9 May. Then to Cho Oyu and Chinese BC three days later. (Fricker, Odermatt and Sigrist left the team after Xixabangma.) Their summit bid on Cho Oyu was made by just three members: Bolt, Buel and Merat, who left C3 for the top with their four Sherpas at 1:00 am (NST) on 22nd May. One Sherpa, Ngima Chhiring [Lama], dropped out at the Yellow Band (7700m) to return to C3 and made tea, while all the others continued to the summit. The members arrived there between 7:15 am (Bolt) and 8:15 am (Merat). The summit party descended all the way to ABC, where they arrived about 5:00 pm that day. After they had spent two nights in ABC, the entire team left ABC on the 24th and reached the Last Resort in Nepal that day and were in Kathmandu on the 25th.
