| Route Notes | Chris Suggitt (email) - 21 Nov 2012 Joerg was killed in an avalanche at camp 1, we think it was on the 26th. He did not get to Camp 2 during his time on the mountain. Eric Simonson (email) - 22 Nov 2012 Ang Jangbu told me he was with Monterosa and that he died in a tent at camp 1; that was buried by snow (not an avalanche, just lots of snow). Apparently nobody checked on him, they just left him up there??? Lukasz Stebelski (email) - 22 Nov 2012 During the 1st attempt: we experienced a major snowstorm, met the body of dead Czech climber on ropes at the seracs (6700m), and had avalanche in Camp 1. This avalanche covered a number of tents. One of them we undug, saving 2 climbers from Monterosa expedition (Ales Ort and Lucia Lopez Ferrandiz). We also searched for another one of their participants, but could not find his tent. Later we learned that he died covered by the snow in his sleeping bag. His tent was completely covered by snow. Max Bunce (IMG Leader) - 27 Nov 2012 I remember someone getting killed when a small slide sluffed off a 20-foot wall into the main part of camp 1 just to the left after you crest onto the ridge. I think he was in his tent. |
