Route Notes Quintero was the only member to climb above C2. Echeverri (ABC manager) stayed in ABC throughout the climb. Rodriguez went with Quintero on 29 April towards C2, but he got to only 6800m, then turned back to ABC because he was not acclimatized properly. Quintero continued with the team's only Sherpa, Pasang Tshiring, to pitch C2 at 7200m that day and to C3 on 4 May. The early morning of the 5th was very windy, and they were the first persons to start for the summit when they left C3 at 5:00 am. Pasang Tshiring turned back after ascending to 8100m, but Quintero went on and went to the very highest point at noon. He went to the plateau's edge, where he found a standing snow bar and many prayer flags; he had a glimpse of Everest through the cloud cover. In his descent to C3, he used new ropes fixed by a French team led by Paulo Grobel. At about 7600m, two pitons holding the rope in place pulled out, and he fell 1.5 meters. He was not injured, but stuffing has come out of his down pants from two holes torn in his fall. He returned to C3 at 4:30-5:00 pm to spend the night and was back in ABC on the 6th. Sherpa: Pasang Tshering Sherpa, 10/4/63, Beding, Cho Oyu X5, Everest X3 Note: On his web site, Quintero says he summited with Tshiring Sherpa. Other climbers confirm that he was accompanied by a Sherpa.
