| Route Notes | BC at CBC/IC on 19 April at 5300m. Lanko started his summit push from C2 at 1 am on 6 May. He got to the top at 4 pm and stayed on summit for about 45 minutes. Lanko said that he walked one hour to the left side from shoulder then turned right and walked 300m then again turned right and walked about 500m again, he turned left and walked about 400m, that is where he thought was summit. His altimeter showed 8180m. He descended in dark, strong wind and snowfall. It was 9 pm and he could not find his C2 tent. So he dug a snowhole and spent the night at 7200m in very cold and windy night. -20 degrees on 7 May about 5 am, he got out of hole and saw his C2 tent just 200m below. Lanko went to the tent and slept until noon then went down to ABC where he reached around 7 pm. The weather on summit day was windy and cold. Everest side was totally cloudy and Tibetan side was clear. Lanko was alone on the mountain on that day. He said that it was very difficult to follow the trail due to heavy snow on route. Lanko also said that the did not see any object on the top. Fixed rope: 20m above 7600m. |
