Route Notes Kausch climbed to the site for C3 at 7450m on 27 September and saw the conditions above, layers of snow sliding down and therefore unsafe to climb; he decided that the attempt to scale the mountain had to be abandoned. To establish personal altitude records, Tomordy and Vetter went up to C3's site on 1 October with Lhakpa Gelu to clear gear from there and C2. All other members went no higher than C2. Three members had already left the expedition: Cardinale, who had been the guide for Herbick, left on 26 September after seeing the bad snow conditions. Herbick left on 22 September with hemorrhoids. Ranger left on 15 September because he had pulmonary edema. Sherpas: Lhakpa Gelu, 13/4/77, Thumduk, Bung, Solu, Cho Oyu X1, Everest X1, Lhotse X1
