Route Notes The team high point was reached early in their climb. Flock and Kami Rita on an acclimatization climb went up to 7315m on 13 Sept. A number of members left the team for various reasons in the first two weeks of September. The remaining seven members, Austin, Bunce, Derby, Hamill, Masleckyj, O'Brien and Wedel, moved from ABC to C1 on 24 September, but they got no higher. There was too much snow above, and they retreated to ABC the same day. On the 27th, the team again climbed from ABC to C1 while two of their Sherpas, Dawa Nuru and Mingma Tenzing, were fixing rope much higher up, trying to fix to the summit. But they and seven other Sherpas from different teams were hit by an avalanche, and Mingma Tenzing's knee ligament was injured. The team abandoned their attempt on Cho Oyu and returned to ABC the next day. Members who left early: Bandle was not adjusting quickly to the altitude and ran out of time; he reached 6700m on 8 September. Bickes got to C1 on 7 September, but developed dizziness as a result of the altitude. Buel, like Bandle, reached 6700m on 8 September, became exhausted and left with Bandle. Devereux reached C2 on the 12th, then had to leave because of problems at home. Duester got to C1 on the 7th, had a bad cough and quit. Flock also reached C2 on the 12th, but now had to get back to work. Thomaseth reached C2 on the 12th, then decided he needed to return home.
