Route Notes High point at Yellow Band. Four members, Baeck, Hermann, Schlagbauer and Steinbrinker, wanted to try for the summit, so the climbed to C2 on 29 September. Only two, Baeck and Hermann, actually went for the top; they left C2 at 7100m at 10:00 am, but gave up at 2:00 pm, when they reached the Yellow Band at 7600m. They returned to C2 at 5:00 pm and were back in ABC the next day. The leader had already declared the climb abandoned on 27 September because of avalanche danger. The last members to leave ABC departed on 4 October, but a number of members had left before that, most of them with various ailments. Fei went no higher than ABC because of a lung infection and left the team on 27 September. Hasibeter had an ear infection, and an avalanche convinced him should leave, which he did on 29 September. Maschits got to C1 only and left with the others on 29 September. Pfitscher did not acclimatize and was developing cerebral edema when he left with Fei on the 27th. Ploner reached C2, but left on the 29th with an infected tooth. Starzl got to C1, but was very weak; he stayed in BC for most of the climbing period and left on the 27th. Wimmer was not strong enough to get above C1 and left on the 27th.
