| Route Notes | Every time the team got to C2, they were hit by strong wind and forced to retreat to ABC. This happened to them on the 17th and 24th of September and the 6th and 13th of October. And, in addition to the winds, there was frequent snowfall, loading the slopes above C2. They never climbed above C2. They had hoped to go to the summit on 15 October, but after black clouds started building up on the 14th at about 12:40 pm and came in at 2 pm, they retreated to ABC, clearing their camp as they descended, and reached ABC at 6:30 pm. They had abandoned the climb. It started snowing that night: at ABC, four inches (ten centimeters) fell during the night. The black clouds delivered their loads. All members on the mountain and both Sherpas climbed together always. Tredway left the team on 8 October as he had planned; he had to meet his wife in Thailand. Sherpas: Tshering Dorje/Chiring Dorje, 25/10/74, Beding, Cho Oyu X4, Everest X10, etc. Tashi Sherpa, 18/4/79, Namche Bazar/Beding, Cho Oyu X1, Everest X5 |
