| Route Notes | The team's summit bid started from C3 on 2 October, when all three members left the camp at 4:15 am (NST). Reininger climbed only 100 meters above camp, then at 4:45 am he found the weather too cold and too windy, and he descended to ABC. The other members, Hauer and von Melle, continued their climb. They took one hour and a half to cross the summit plateau. The wind was blowing at 50 km/hr and clouds obstructed the view of Everest and Lhotse, but they are confident that they were actually on the summit: they were on the eastern edge of the plateau, and there was no higher bump/peak. Hauer reachd the summit at 11:15 am and von Melle got there fifteen minutes later, thus becoming the first German woman to claim the summits of four eight-thousanders. They left the top at 11:30 am and descended to C2. The next day they joined Reininger in ABC. |
