Route Notes Urth arrived at BC on 10 September with other Asian Trekking's small parties, and he often climbed with them: Ms. Tamara Lunger from Italy, Josep Doppler from Austria, and Rupert Hauer, the leader of a small Austrian-German team. On 15th Sept he went up from C1 with Lunger to 6800m and down to ABC on his first acclimatization trip. On the 20th he and Lunger climbed together from ABC to C1, and on the 21st he continued up to C2 to spend one night there and again down to ABC. He spent five full days in ABC resting during a period of snowy weather. Then he returned to C1 on the 28th and with Hauer and a member of his group, Ms Alix Von Melle, climbed to C2 the next day. But instead of continuing his ascent, on 1 October he had to descend to ABC because stomach trouble had left him weak. He set out again for the top from ABC on the 4th. The day after that he was in C2, and from here he launched his summit bid. He and others left C2 at 2:00 am (NST) on 6 Oct, and he stood on the top at precisely 2:56 pm. He was sure he summited because he spent two hours walking around the summit plateau to get to the highest point. Furthermore, he saw Everest from one of these points. He returned to C2 at about 8:00 pm. The long day had been cold and very windy. Urth arrived back at ABC on the 7th and now discovered that his right big toe was frostbitten. It will heal completely, but in order to protect it from the damage of walking on it, he rode a motorbike from an intermediate camp between ABC and BC at 5500m to BC, from where he could travel on four wheels to Kathmandu.
