| Route Notes | A party of seven members plus one Sherpa and one Tibetan left C3 for the top at 4:10 am (NST) on 26 September, but three members dropped out on the way. Kasmanhuber got to 7500m, just 100m above the camp, at 4:40 am, when he developed a bad cough and descended to C2. Keck got to the same high point and also had a bad cough; he went down to C1. Schneider stopped at about 7500-7550m at 5:10 am, then returned to C3 because his fingers were getting very cold. All the others in the party continued to the top. They were Herndl, Kaiser, Mueller, Rohrmann, Pasang Nuru Sherpa and Tsering Tashi, a Tibetan. They reached the summit at varying times: Pasang Nuru and Tsering Tashi were the first at 10:50 am, next was Mueller, and last was Rohrmann at 4:00 pm. They saw Everest and Lhotse for a few minutes when clouds parted. All stayed that night in C3, arrived there between 2:00 and 6:15 pm. Other non-summiting members: Hofer reached about 7100m on 17 September, then lost motivation to continue. Liebold went to C1 with the others on 14 September, had stomach problem and bad cough, and left the expedition on the 16th. Nadler got to C2 on 25 September, had no strength left, and went back to BC. Margaret Pfeiffer while descending from C1 to BC on 15 September, fell at 6000m, hurt a knee, got to BC and remained there. Norbert Pfeiffer got to C3 but no higher; not strong enough to continue. Hired: Pasang Nuru Sherpa, 17/5/74, Bupsa, Jubing-5, Solu, Everest X3, Makalu X1 Tsering Tashi, Tibetan, Tibetan Mountaineering School, Cho Oyu & Everest |
