Route Notes The expedition sent three parties to the summit on three different days. In the first group were nine members, Guggisberg, Gremion, Meile, Monnerat, Oser, Schneider, Trostmann, Wild and Wirth, plus Sherpas Lhakpa and Pemba. They left C3 at midnight of 23/24 September (NST) and were on the summit at 7:00 to 9:30 am on the 24th, most of them around 8:00 am. They saw Everest and Makalu in fine weather. They descended to ABC at 6:00 pm. Scholz went to C3 with this successful group, but he was too tired to go on up, and instead he retreated to ABC. The second party of five members, Leiweke, Maier, Pohl, Ruppen and Sieveking, with Ngada and Nurbu Chhiring Sherpas, left C3 at 0:30 hours on the 25th, reached the summit from 10:00 to 10:20 am, and returned to C3 at 3:00 pm. They were back in ABC on the 26th. The final summiters were just two members and Sherpa, Baumann, Klittich-Baumann and Pemba Nurbu. They started up from C3 at 0:30 hours on the 27th, were on the top at 9:15 am and stopped in C2 at 4:00 pm. They went down to ABC on the 28th. The four remaining members of the expedition set out from C3 for the summit with the third summit group on the 27th. But they turned back at the Yellow Band (7600m) at 1:00 am because they had stomach problems. They descended to C2 at 10:00 am that day and to ABC on the 28th.
