Route Notes Before going to Cho Oyu, the team went to Khumbu and acclimatized by climbing Island Peak with three others on 27 and 28 September. They returned to Kathmandu immediately and left for Tibet on 5 October. They arrived at BC on 8 October. By this time, almost all other Cho Oyu teams had finished their climbing and had left BC. When Santos and Felgueiras went to ABC on the 9th and stayed there two nights, there were no other climbers on the mountain (Feja had left the team on the 9th because he had a case of giardia.) Santos and Felgueiras decided on the 11th that they should leave too. They were now alone: they had no Sherpa or Tibetan climbers with them; all other teams had either left entirely or had finished their climbs and were ready to leave very soon; even the liaison officer was not there: he had gone to Tingri. They saw that there would be no one to help them if they needed assistance on this 8000 meter mountain. They left BC on the 12th.
Accidents Feja got Giardia and left BC 9 Oct
