Route Notes Summit Climb Cho Oyu Expedition led by Arnold Coster - 8 Oct 2007 Summit party of seven members, one Sherpa and five Tibetans left C3 at 10:45 pm (NST) on 1 Oct for the summit. Tock turned around at 7500m (at Yellow Band) at 12:15 pm. She complained to Philip Crampton, leader of another expedition, that she had been abandoned by her Sherpas because they felt she was too slow, Crampton said in Kathmandu. Coster did not mention abandonment, said that one of her "Sherpas" a Tibetan named Kyduo, left her and went to the summit by himself, while her other Tibetan, Chamba, had stomach trouble and also turned around at 7500m. She descended to C2. The other members in the summit party reached the top from 5:45 am (Coster and Kiriakakis) to 6:15 am (both Ottos) to 6:45 am (Burgess and Doron) on the 2nd. The other summiters were Jangbu Sherpa and Tibetans Sau Long, Gesang, and Pubu Tsering. The sun rose when the first people arrived at the top, and they all had a "wonderful" view of the Everest group in clear weather and no wind. The summiters went down to different camps that day. Burgess went only to C3 with Jangbu. Doron and the two Ottos stopped in C2, Kiriakakis in C1 and Coster to ABC. Oxygen: All summit party members used oxygen from C3 to top high point to C2. Tibetan Gesang used it from C3 to top to C3. The Sherpa and other Tibetans did not use any. Non-summiting members: Alling reached C1 on 11 Sept, but the strenous climb was too much for him, so stayed in ABC during the rest of the climb. Liu developed altitude sickness at BC and on 10 Sept went down to Tingri. He returned to ABC on the 17th, climbed to C2 on the 30th, then ran out of steam and down to C1 on 2 Oct. Tock was in summit party, but turned back (see above). Health problems: Burgess was very slow in his descent to only C3 from the summit, and his toes and fingers got frostbitten. Liu's altitude sickness discussed above. Tibetans: Chamba, 20, Nyalam, no 8000ers [??] Gesang, 24, Shegar, no 8000ers [??] Kyduo, 18, Shegar, no 8000ers Pubo Tsering, 18, Tingri, no 8000ers Sau Long, 18, Nyalam, no 8000ers Arnold Coster - 25 Feb 2008 The summit times are the same as I mentioned on the web site (Chinese times): Gesang + Saulong 6:30 am, just before Coster & Kiriakakis who summited at 7:00 am. Kedop 8:00 am, together with the two Otto's. Jangbu + Pubo Tsering 9:00 am, together with Doron and Burgess.
