| Route Notes | 7 Summits Club Cho Oyu Expedition - 16 Oct 2007 The summit party of 10 Oct consisted of Abramov, Beloyvan, Chesnokov, Moskalev, Semenov, Zhelezov, plus Sherpas Pemba Tenzing, Mingma Gelu, Pasang and Nima Ongdi. Semenov and Pemba Tenzing left C3 at 2:00 am (CST) on 10 Oct. The other five members and three Sherpas left at 4:00 am. All were on the summit at around 9:00 am. They found a framed picture of a Buddhist monk whom they though was probably the Dalai Lama, and from where they stood, a bit before the edge of the plateau, they saw Everest and Lhotse but not the Western Cwm. They stayed half an hour; it was not windy but very cold when they ahd climbed up from C3. Abramov believed it was safest to for everyone to go down quickly to ABC, so he got all his members and Sherpas in ABC in the dark the same day; they arrived at ABC between 10:00 and 11:00 pm. Kosarev reached C3 with the summit party, but Abramov told him he could not go to the summit because he was very slow and had arrived at C3 very late; he had a stomach ache. Although everyone was in ABC for the night of the 10th/11th, they could not leave ABC until the 14th because of a long wait for yaks to take them away. Shfin, a well-known tennis athlete, had already left; he did no climbing. In fact he arrived with the team in the morning of 19 September, but after lunch said he had to return to Moscow immediately. He had never climbed any mountain and had never been to high altitude before. Abramov thinks he wanted to go home to watch the Davis Cup tennis matches. He left the day he arrived. Oxygen: Semenov started using it at 7900m at 6:00 am because his toes were becoming very cold (the ends of his toes became white and numb); he used it to the top and down to C3. Other summit members used it from C3 to top to C3 (except Abramov, who used it down to C1). All four Sherpas used none. Sherpas: Mingma Gelu, 5/2/79, Balakharka, Makalu, Everest X5 Nima Ongdi, 19/2/79, Balakharka, Makalu, Everest X2 Pasang Sherpa, 20/2/83, Tashigaon, Sedua, Makalu, Everest X3 Pemba Tenzing, 23/8/76, Thamo, Everest X4, Cho Oyu X1 |
