Route Notes Climbing days out of 5 weeks because of weather and without oxygen. 2nd acclimatization went to 7500m. American, etc. Cho Oyu Expedition led by Mike Hamill - Autumn 2006 Report by Ang Jangbu Sherpa of Great Escapes Trekking: He was at advance base camp throughout the climb, and kept a record of it for E. Hawley at her request since team did not come to Kathmandu either before of after their climb. Midway through the climb, two members, Borland and Bridges, dropped out because the mountain was too big. They turned around on 18 Sept and left the mountain on 20 or 21 Sept. Two other members, Johnson and Sauvage, turned around at C1 on 30 Sept because they were too cold; they went no higher. Summit party left C3 from 1:00 to 1:30 am (NST) on 2 October and summited from 5:05-6:20 am. The members were: Des Jardins, Messner, Patterson, Harter, Vallejo, Vaream and Hamill. After summit Patterson descended all the way to ABC same day; Harter and Vallejo stayed in C2; Des Jardins, Messner, Vaream and Hamill descended to C1.
