| Route Notes | Jelinek, Prokop, Simunek and Lhakpa Dorje left C2 for summit at midnight (NST). Jelinek climbed for only 30 minutes and decided no more and down to C2; other 3 went on up. Simunek at 7500m boots "not satisfactory" following other 2 saw they stopped at 7600m because Prokop was slow; Simunek joined them at 7600m and then at 10:00 am all down to ABC and all 4 arrived ABC 5:00 pm. Cuda had reached C2 and down to C1 same day 1 Oct. Kricka to 6700m late Sept, early Oct. Simunek left ABC 6 Oct 6:30 am, arrived C2 6:00 pm and left for top with others at midnight. Other factors discouraging Simunek from continuing his climb: 1) he lived in a communist country, Czechoslavakia, and he detested Chinese army's shooting a Tibetans fleeing Communism for Nepal; 2) huge number of climbers on Cho Oyu. Sherpa: Lhakpa Dorje, 16/11/61, Sanam, Gudel VDC, Solukhumbu, Makalu X3, Lhotse X1, Everest X2, Cho Oyu X3 |
