Route Notes Left C3 at 2:00 am NST: Doble, Fry, Polackova, Tenzing, Dawa Gyalzen and Pemba; at 10:55 am Tenzing told Doble he must turn back because of his rate of climbing and Pemba went back with him to C3, arrived there at 5 pm, delayed by getting lost in blizzard above yellow band. Rest of summit team went on to top: Fry 7:20 am, Dawa Sherpa 7:35 am, Tashi Tenzing and Polackova 9:30 am; had "fantastic" view as far as Kangchenjunga. Went to C2 at 5:00 pm, Fry 6:00 pm waited for Dawa Gyalzen to return from looing for Doble who with Pemba had strayed too far to the west (blizzard stopped in afternoon). Dickson went to 6700m only; Morse also only to 6700m; Rowland reached C2 only; Doble and Pemba reached 8000m at 10:55 am and then Tashi Tenzing told Doble he must go down because now too late for him to summit safely; he and Pemba reached C3 at 5:00 pm and slept there. Sherpas: Dawa Gelji, 18/4/75, Chankhu-4, Cho Oyu X1 Pema, 28/8/73, Pathibhara, Makalu, no 8000ers
