| Route Notes | When going for C2 winds so strong and temperature so cold, pitched camp at only 6750m and two days later on 20th, made their C3 at normal C2 site. All 3 members left C3 at 1:30 am NST; about 2:00 am Chin having problems: slurred speech, vision problem, so Viesturs went down with Chin while Gustafsson on up to top alone; Viesturs and Chin all way to BC at 3:30 pm and Gustafsson joined them there at 9:30 pm in moonlight. Viesturs and Gustafsson descended, brought down all gear. Chin improved quickly and descended and came down on own feet. Rope fixed as this: 40m in icefall between C1 and C2; above 6750m fixed 150m, in direct line up from there. Next to Annapurna I: Arrive BC 30 April by chopper; taking oxygen; probably only Viesturs and Gustafsson; plan to summit on 7 May 77. Return KTM 8-10 May by helicopter from BC. Stay Tibet Guest House or if successful, Yak and Yeti maybe. |
