Route Notes 6th very windy high on top. Barbieri was already acclimatized on ascent of Xixabangma, so planned to go for summit in less windy day to top. She was with Spaniard, Xabier Ornazabal, whom she met on Xixabangma climb and at whose suggestion they climb Cho Oyu together which she welcomed on theory two together were better than one alone. They stayed in ABC 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th nights. 10th weather bit better but Barbieri thought still too unstable but Ornazabal decided to go for summit. So 11th she tried to go to C1 with Tirtha Tamang to look for him, but again windy so turned back at 5900m and returned to ABC, learning from French Basques Xabier had arrived in C2. 12th very strong winds in afternoon snowfalling. 13th weather better and waited again in ABC while watched him get to summit plateau and later descended, sat for an hour in this wind. 14th stayed in ABC. Barbieri stayed in ABC while Tamang went to C3 and found Xabier's body. Barbieri did not try climb anymore because of grief over Xabier's death and felt responsible to report to police and returned to KTM soon as possible to inform his family.
