| Route Notes | BC at CBC C1 at usual place C2 at usual place. May 05 Doucharine and Volkov left C2 at 02:30 hrs (Chinese Time); summit at 13:00 hours (10:45 NST), spent about 45 minutes, returned to C2 at 17:00 hours. Nice weather. Volkov said he saw both Nepal and Tibet side clearly. Everest could not be seen due to clouds on that side. On that day other expeditions reaching summit were one Korean with Sherpa, Spanish before him. The storm on 25 Apr blew away their tent at C2 and lost everything in it except three ice axes pegged to tent. Most of the climbing gear was borrowed from other expeditions. The gloves used by Volkov were borrowed from G. Goeschl (Amical-Austrian), who too had borrowed them from the Swiss climber Rupert (these gloves summited three times). The expedition team arrived KTM on 11 May and plan to leave on 14. |
