Route Notes Summit party of 5 left C3 4:30 am (NST) and on top about 11:00 am (with Inaki party). Made track to true summit and saw Everest, returned to C3 3:00 pm, slept in C2 that night. On 20th Sherpas to 7600-7700m fixing rope. This team dug platforms for C3 and put up Japanese tents, but Phurba left a Japanese sack believed to hold oxygen only, but had food (which birds took away). Brice apologized for this mistake. Sherpas of 2 expeditions had made a deal for Brice team to use Japanese tents. Brice team to ABC on 22nd. This Brice's 6th ascent of Cho Oyu. Brice went from 5400m lake below ABC to top in '96 spring in 11 hours and down to lake in 3 hours. Schmidt this autumn made "amazing ascent" from ABC to top to BC. Brice returns to Xixa to BC.
