Route Notes 25 Sept night Passino became sick with pneumonia so both were down 26th down to ABC and Passino left 27th and went to Italy. Had gone up to C1B to acclimatize expecting to go up via a route further to west climbed by Swiss-Polish team in '90, but with Passino having to leave climb, Besson returned to normal route alone because Italians (led by Joyeusaz who he shared permit with) got sick. Besson went alone to C1 (6400m) on 1st Oct, 2nd to C2 to alone, and 3rd to C3 but down to ABC same day. 4th in ABC. 5th started for summit at 4:00 pm, reach C1 6:30 pm, slept till 11:00 pm and at 12:00 up again. Reached C2 3:30 am, rested till 5:30 am, 5:30 am up to top which 1:12 pm where had crossed plateau to highest point when saw Everest and Lhotse. Slept in C2 on 5:30 pm very tired. 7th to ABC and left ABC 8th for BC and left BC 11 Oct. "Very uninteresting summit: all flat."
