Route Notes 20th "summiters" went to left on summit plateau [but very near the top]. 23rd Sept party pretty much straight across (following Korean tracks) and Molins' footage of video pictures shown to others who summited on 24th. 23rd people could not see Everest clearly because of mist but those on 24th did see Everest and they confirmed 23rd team had reached top. Maclaurin went for top on 24th but turned down and again on 25th (this time to 7900m), but both times defeated by cold weather; also he was very tired. Tom Richardson, leader of OTT Cho Oyu expedition, said on 2 Oct the footprints [of Mario Pelliciari, two Italians Franco Martinelli and Guilliaume Pargaud and two Australians Matt Carlin and Mark Savage] suggested they went to left on summit plateau, not to top [on 20 Sept]. Summit area in clouds but Italians had GPS and got within 15m of top but probably did not get to true summit. Pargaud attempted again on 24 Sept.
Accidents Faulds-Smith bad altitude sickness but stayed until all teams finished
