Route Notes 6:00 pm 19 Sept left C3 for top (with Mario Pelliciari of Molins team) to C3 site to brew drink and from here went to top with 2 Italians from C3 (Franco Martinelli and Guilliaume Pargaud). Left C3 at midnight with trail on normal route (Koreans had gone directly up) and at summit plateau at 10:00 am in knee deep snow. Summit area in clouds but Italians had GPS and got within 15m of top but probably did not get to true summit. Left "top" at 2 pm and back at C3 5:10 pm, left at dark and returned to C2 8:30-9:00 pm. 27 hours from C2 to return there. Enjoyed climb. Very cold summit (-20 to -25 degrees in early morning). Returned to ABC 21 Sept. Leave KTM 1 Oct. Tom Richardson, leader of OTT Cho Oyu expedition, said on 2 Oct the footprints [of Mario Pelliciari, two Italians Franco Martinelli and Guilliaume Pargaud and two Australians Matt Carlin and Mark Savage] suggested they went to left on summit plateau, not to top [on 20 Sept]. Summit area in clouds but Italians had GPS and got within 15m of top but probably did not get to true summit. Pargaud attempted again on 24 Sept.
