| Route Notes | Team had no BC. They used the Kangri Resort Lodge in Chhukung as their BC, arriving on 21st of Sept. Team first climbed Island Peak on 29 Sept via the N Ridge approaching the North Col from the Lhotse Glacier. For Cho Polu, team started from Chhukung via the normal BC further to the start of the glacier traverse towards Cho Polu, where they had a bivy camp (no tents, just sleeping bag and mattress) on 8 Oct. From this bivy they started at 2 am and crossed the glacier in 1.5 hrs to the start of the West Face of Cho Polu. From there it took 10 hrs to the top via the West Face and the South Ridge. First climbed with some zig-zagging to the first snow on the West Face; after straight up until shortly below the South Ridge and here under some rocks traversing towards north to reach the South Ridge. Once arrived at the South Ridge along it to the summit. Summited 9 Oct around early afternoon. On the way down they decided to wait for safe conditions for the descent and made a snow cave at 6400m on the South Ridge/Col. From the summit to here just down climbing in around 1 hr from the summit. Back at Chhukung the following day, on the 10 Oct. |
