| Route Notes | BC at west side of terminal moraine at east end of Na and other village Biv1 just above Col and start of ridge Biv2 on NW Ridge on south side 10-20m below ridge High point on NW Ridge. W Face huge rock avalanches and icefalls so often. 200m attempt on it, abandoned face and changed to NW Ridge, the Aut 1998 US-NZ route. 5th Dec abandoned climb. Had had lot of deep powdered snow plus problem of getting around lot of gendarmes, slow progress and now tired and would take several more days to get to top at their slow speed. Had only one day's fuel left and Smith frostbite 1 finger on 3rd day of ascent. Spent 5th Dec in biv 4 and on 6th got to BC. |
