Route Notes BC east of Charchang C1 at bottom of West Rib above icefall C2 high on rib (really top of rib). C1 pitched on 21st of Sept but occupied on 23rd. 24th biv at 5800m, same site as '88 US team on W Rib. 25th made a camp at 6200m; just above C2 climbed on to SW Ridge & followed it to summit. Darragh had gotten sick & stayed in BC during summit push of 24-26th Sept. 27th summiters from C2 to BC. On 29th 1 member had gone to Namche & returned to BC on 1st while Falkner stayed at BC with bad case of flu. On 1st Oct Darragh started up for his own summit bid & bivouacked on his climb. Darragh 1st biv at 5600m, 2nd biv at 5800m which he reached in early hours of 2nd Oct (same place as Trio's biv); from this biv early on 3rd began his summit push & on top in late morning, spent less than half an hour on top & at 8:30 am in tracks remaining from earlier summit climb and using their abseil anchors. Did not attempt W Face direct route because it was threatened by ice cliff & would have had to pay 2nd royalty. Martin Hunter - 1992 Cholatse (6440m): On 17 Sept 1992 Cam Falkner, Derek Chinn, Adam Darragh and I found ourselves sitting at the base camp under the imposing West Face of Cholatse 6440m in the Khumbu region of Nepal. We planned to attempt a line directly up the middle of the face between the NW Ridge, climbed by the Salters expedition in 1988, and a blunt rib on the right of the face which had also been attempted by that expedition. Considering the direct route too threatened we turned our attention to the West Rib. We established camp one on 21 Sept and retreated to base camp. We returned to camp one on 23 Sept and the following day bivouacked at 5800m.
Accidents Darragh's intestinal problem
