| Route Notes | Did not go to the mountain at all - too busy with geological research. No climbing in BC. Sarti & Gradstein were interested in going to climb Bhrikuti, but not enough time to spare for 2 days to the mountain, an attempt at climbing & 2 days back to center of geological work, which was their reason for being in the area (and for getting a climbing permit enablimg them to be there). Letter from Massimo Sarti - 9 May 1991 The main reason of the unsuccess was insufficient time. As I told you our mission was scientific so that most of our time was dedicated to that. Our attempt to reach the Brikuti base camp through Narsing Khola failed because of our underestimate of logistic requirements such as food supply, unavailability of water, men support and length of the trip. Brikuti is extremely far away if approached from the SW Ridge. On the other hand, our geologic goals were all accomplished with fantastic and unexpected results. |
