Route Notes Approach: Flight to Johmson, trek to Muktinath, Green Camp, Narsing Khola, Kog, Kampa's Headquarter Camp, Bhrikuti BC, Khumjumgar BC. HPt: 01/11 6269m by Swan, Fornerod, Temba Bhote. Climb abandoned on 1 Nov due to coldness. They had an intense approach, very difficult approach march. Between Khumjumgar BC and Dhey La Camp they set up a camp at 5873m on 31 Oct. The plan was next day to have some people to climb Bhrikuti while porters and other members would carry loads and go over unnamed pass at 6300m west of Bhrikuti. They eventually wanted to cross the Saribung Pass and walk into Nar Phu. Summit group (Swan, Fornerod, Temba Bhote) left camp at 5:30 am on 01 Nov. Long walk on glacier with big crevasses. They took a wrong way, ending up at max altitude at 6269m at pass NW of Bhrikuti. It was 8:30 am. They would have had time to go to summit, but it was extremely cold. They estimated it to be -40 to -50° Celsius. They decided not to climb it. Going down they had to abseil, very steep ice slope, much more difficult than going up. The others at camp had started to go up already, when Swan radioed them and told them that they would go back the way they came. It would have been too dangerous for the whole team to cross the pass and continue to Saribung Pass in the cold conditions. The whole team went down to a place a little further down than Khumjumgar BC near bottom of glacier at 5399m. They arrived at camp at 3:20 pm that day. Porters were not well enough equipped for such an extreme mountain trip in those conditions according to Swan. Lots of crevasses, a long way, very cold. A lighter team would have been needed to go over pass and traverse into Nar Phu. Next day on 2 Nov team went down to Kampa's HQ camp. Then to Tangge. On 4 Nov to Tangge Pa. On 5 Nov from Pa to Chuksang. From there Jeep to Jomson, and flight to Pokhara.
