| Route Notes | Report from David Goettler: BC 20/05 5400m ABC 21/05 5800m (below West Col) HPt 22/05 6950m by Goettler Goettler and Arnold wanted to climb Baruntse in one-day Alpine style. When Goettler reached the summit ridge, he felt that the cornice was too dangerous so he decided to turn around. Arnold reached 6750m, but as he had a stomach bug he decided to abandon the climb. He had carried up his skis and skied down to the top of the West Col. The same day, both members returned to BC where they stayed the night. Left BC on 23/05, walked to Pheriche from where they took a helicopter to Lukla. Oxygen: Not taken, not used Sherpas: None Goettler and Arnold were clients of Himalayan Vision on the 8K permit. |
