Route Notes From Namas Adventure Facebook: Baruntse Expedition 2021 had to be called OFF, because of COVID outbreak in the Baruntse base-camp. We summited MERA and the whole team was on a positive mood to Baruntse climb. Our team reached Baruntse base camp, rested and ate well for 3 days, puja day and had our clear weather window day. All team made a push to camp 1, then the news broke out from the other team [from Austria] that their team had been in touch with a COVID positive person along the whole trails upto MERA PEAK. The guiding team had been getting symptoms, were feeling fatigue and weak by this point. The other climbing team called off their climb and we had to discuss about the potential risks before we made any decision. After contemplating with the decision for hours we chose to cancel Baruntse climb looking at all the risk if any of our member were to be sick at 6000M+ (since our guiding team had been in touch with the other teams guiding members) altitude then that would be total irresponsible and would put the whole team on life threatening situation. Thats the nature of expedition and current situation. The decisions goes against the plan more than we can think so. Now our team is all safe, healthy and resting in Namche Bazaar.
