Route Notes BC near lake C1 just across West Col via south face of Col. Three days later after having established BC near the lake at the normal site, the team climbed up to the West Col south of the usual route and pitched C1 just over the Col (on its east side). On the 26th, they went up from C1 to reconnoitre to way to C2, and to give Miller the opportunity to check whether the sensitive condition of the back of his neck was reacting adversely to altitude (it wasn't). They returned to BC to sleep. They rested two days in BC, then packed up and were ready to go back to C1 on the 29th, planning to spend that night in C1, climb up to C2 the next day and go for the summit on 1 May. Clark had just put his backpack on his shoulders, ready to leave, when his right foot struck a rock, he fell over and a minor bone in his ankle was cracked. He was left with no mobility in the ankle. The climb was over.
