Route Notes BC near small lake C1 east side of West Col C2 at bottom of steep part of SE Ridge. Adventure Consultants Baruntse 2008, led by Michael Roberts - 5 Oct 2008 The summit party left C2 at 3:00 am on 27 September: Josef Hochmeister, Lukas Hochmeister, Huber, Lopez, Roberts, Dawa Jangbu, Lhakpa Dorje and Temba. Josef Hochmeister turned around at 3:30 am, when he was at 6500m, because of a breathing problem and descended to BC the same day. All the others went to the top at 10:50 am and were back in C2 at 3:00 pm. While the summiters were on their way to the top, a slab avalanche started moving down the mountain close to Huber, but no one was hurt. Because of his breathing problem, Josef Hochmeister used oxygen for two hours in C2 before going on down to BC. Non-summiting members: Josef Hochmeister (see above). Irani reached 6000m on Baruntse, and after having summited Mera Peak on 15 September with the other members and Sherpas, he decided he had more than enough climbing. He left Baruntse BC on 21 September. Kuehn was a guide on this expedition. He got as high as C2 and was on the mountain till the 25th, when he left to help rescue a Sherpa at Amphu Laptsa. Rich turned back at C2 on the 27th because of bronchitis. He left BC with the other members.
