Route Notes BC at west side of small lake C1 on West Col C2 at foot of SE Ridge. Italian Baruntse Expedition, led by Silvio Mondinelli - 26 October 2008 C1 at 6100m was occupied by Allegrini, Dalla Rosa, Mabellini and Mondinelli on 13 October. The next day they returned to BC. On the 17th, Allegrini, Dalla Rosa and Mabellini went back to C1. The next day Mondinelli joined them in C1, and on the 19th all four went up to C2. On the 20th the four members and their two Sherpas, Nuru Wangchu and Sonam Dorje, left C2 for the summit at 3:00 am. At 8:00 am on the SE Ridge, Dalla Rosa turned back; he was not a climber, and this was the first time he had ever used crampons and an ice axe. The other three members and the two Sherpas continued to the top, which they reached at 9:00 am. Dalla Rosa reached BC at 2:00 pm and so did Mondinelli while the four other summiters arrived there at 4:30 pm. Two members made no summit bid: Magliano, who was the team's organizer, reached 5800m on 13 October and left the next day. Lenatti never got above BC. She developed altitude sickness on her first day's trek out of Lukla, reached BC on the 10th with the rest of the team, but her edema got worse there, and she was evacuated to Kathmandu by helicopter on the 12th. Sherpas: Nuru Wangchu Sherpa, 18/8/77, Pangboche, Everest X5, Cho Oyu X2 Sonam Dorje (Nuru Wangchu's brother), 18/1/86, Pangboche, Everest X1, Cho Oyu X1
