Route Notes BC near lake C1 just over West Col's east side C2 at lower part of SE Ridge. Baruntse Friendship Expedition, led by Murray Campbell - 11 Nov 2008 The three members and Dawa Sangmu Bhote left for the summit from C2 at 3:00 am on 6 November. At 4:30 am when he was at 6650m, Webber had to turn back because he had pulmonary edema, and Dawa Sangmu went down with him to 6500m to make sure he could descend safely alone, then Dawa Sangmu rejoined the other members. Campbell, Moffat and Dawa Sangmu summited at 8:30 am and were back in BC at 5:00 pm. There was "minimal" wind, blue skies and good, consolidated snow underfoot. Meanwhile, Webber had continued to C2 alone. From there he was escorted down to BC by a Sherpa named Pasang whom the members had hired at Baruntse to help Webber, who had not been well from the start of their climb. Webber and Pasang reached BC at 5:00 pm. Webber used the team's medical oxygen at C2 at 7:00 to 7:30 am. and for another half-hour in BC. A helicopter picked him up from BC on the 8th and flew him to Kathmandu. Sherpas: Dawa Sangmu Bhote, 6/9/77 (21/5/2034), Hatiya-3, Sankhuwasabha, no 8000ers Pasang Sherpa, 27/4/78, Lelep-8, Taplejung, Kangch X1 (he had summited Baruntse on 31 October with a team led by Oxana Morneva from Russia and thus was available to help this team)
