Route Notes BC near lake C1 on West Col C2 at start of steep part of SE Ridge. Amical Alpin Baruntse Expedition 2008, led by Rainer Pircher - 30 Oct 2008 The team acclimatized by going to C2 on 20 Oct. They descended to BC on the 21st, but on the 22nd they made their push for the summit. All members except Valta left BC on the 22nd for C1, on the 23rd they went to C2, and on the 24th they left C2 for the top with their two Sherpas, Karma Gyalzen and Nima Tenji, at 4:00 am. Six members and both Sherpas reached the summit between 8:30 am (Pircher and Gschwendtner) and 11:30 am (Tenbusch). All summiters returned to BC the same day except Tenbusch, who started up late and was not in a hurry so slept the night in C1 and returned to BC at 3:00 pm of the 25th). Non-summiters: Aurisch stopped at 6000m, too tired to continue. Benauer stopped at 6000m because he was too cold. Betinelli also stopped at 6000m because he was cold. Larcher got to 7050m, then turned back because of the cold and he had a headache. Weninger also stopped at 6000m because he was cold. Valta, who did not join the summit party, went to C2 on the 20th, but was not feeling strong enough to go up again. Pircher's nose got slightly frostbitten. It was sensitive to cold since it had gotten frostbitten on Nanga Parbat in June 2008. Sherpas: Karma Gyalzen (he spells his name Karma Geljen), 26/9/71, Surke, Chaurikharka-4, Solu, Everest 21/5/06 Nima Tenji, Chehewa, Waku-9, Solu, no 8000ers
