Route Notes Baruntse - Luc De Vriese, Spring 2008 On 1 May De Vriese and Ritemba Sherpa deposited their climbing gear in C2 and descended to C1. Weather condition was unstable, windy, snowfall. There was no other expedition at that time. They saw a big blue ice slope with fresh snow above C2, which De Vriese thought was dangerous and Ritemba too did not like it. It was not possible for two of them to put fixed ropes above C2. On 2 May De Vriese and Ritemba decided to call off the climb. They brought down their deposit from C2 to BC on 3 May. While they were descending they met three other expeditions around that time it could have been helpful to fix the line on the mountain with collective effort. He added that in this case he was not lucky as when De Vriese reached BC the American expedition was ready to move out of BC and as he was ready to move from BC the Danish expedition came in and also he met the Japanese expedition at Mera La going to Baruntse. About the condition of mountain De Vriese said it was much better in October last year. The team returned Kathmandu on 9 May and will leave on 15 May. Fixed rope: 100m on the West Col Sherpas: Ritemba Sherpa, (25-01-2027), Yaphu-9, Sankhuwasabha (he was with De Vriese on Baruntse last October)
