Route Notes BC at 5400m near lake west of West Col No climbing above BC High point at BC. Arrived at BC in afternoon of 24 Oct and that night started snowfall which went on continously for 48 hours and dumped 70 cms of snow at BC. 27th afternoon 7 Dutch trekkers with about 15 porters coming from Makalu BC (got into trouble between Sherpani Col and West Col and stayed there 2 nights). 2 Germans went up a small hill and saw this big group below West Col moving very slowly and clearly in trouble; Austrians (Gerhard S) went to them with teas while Miss Neidl prepared camp ground for them. From hill (100m high) saw snow conditions ahead not good, snow not settled in. 0 degrees C cold all day and saw avalanching enroute to West Col. 29th waited one day for Amical trekking group to arrive, but it didn't so on 29th Germans left BC. Had been some avalanching on the way to West Col 27th Oct. Decided to abandon climb on 27th because of dangerous snow conditions and not enough time to wait a week for improvement.
