Route Notes BC at west side of small lake (normal site) ABC on glacier C1 at West Col High point at West Col. Climbed Mera (trekking peak). From West Col on 30th to BC, partly because of winds, which pinned down team at BC. Got to ABC 3 May but back to BC because of winds and Canadian trekkers said tents of this expedition were being destroyed. To West Col on 6th May and could salvage pieces of tents and gear and brought everything from Col. 7th May Grocott, Hoezl and Vergueil left because weather bad over Mingbo La leaving only Dick and Turner and Pasang to West Col on 10 May and while cramponing the Col's slope, Turner lost in queue and after he didn't show up. About 20 minutes later Dick went to search and took time to climb down to body and found rope broken at its bottom suggesting Turner's gadget hadn't grabbed rope and he slid about 150m down Col and 100m more on glacier (got to him 5:00 pm and found him dead with head injuries suggesting he died during fall).
