| Route Notes | BC Barun Glacier ABC on moraine of Glacier east northeast of West Col C1 on west side of rockband northeast of West Col C2 west of rock band C3 at SSW of point 6730m High point at cleft in summit ridge. Sherpa went up glacier below Sherpani Col and did not climb this way because of rock band below Col. So went northwest on Baruntse Glacier to West Col. Tichner got only 5500m on 26 April because of altitude sickness; Pinney also altitude sickness and turned back 6000m. Tichner left BC end of April, but Pinney waited in BC for other members to return. Daniels, Duffy and Tremble to South Summit on 5 May. At 7050m stopped by cleft in summit ridge with cornices and unstable snow, so turned back because route above unsafe now. Down to C3. Snowfall continued next day and went down to BC same day, 6 May, and climb finished. |
