Route Notes Weiss was on the same permit, and looked after by the same trekking agency, as the Dutch couple, Mr & Mrs. Bijlsma, and they went to BC together. But Weiss moved independently of them: he arrived at C1 and C2 at later dates than they. However, all three went to C3 and C4 on the same dates. On the day of their summit push from C4, Weiss said he left C4 "too late" (but he couldn't remember what time that was). He turned back at the big crevasse at 6900m which also turned back the Bijlsma's because of its vast size, and returned to C4 that day. On the next day, he descended all the way to BC, while the Dutch stopped in C1. Weiss appeared not to know the form for going to a Nepalese mountain. He brought with him only his own clothes and ice axe; no tent, sleeping bag, stove, gas or food, all of which he said were provided by their trekking agent. The Dutch said he was "not able to handle situations;" he did not know how to tie onto the fixed ropes, for example.
